Meh is how i feel about necro minions in open world and a huge part of that is that they aren’t controllable like ranger pets or the mechanist robot Snap pull and focus 4 are both too short range (600 vs Ranger and mech can recall their pets to keep them from attacking unaggro’ed mobs, dismiss them (without having to mount!), and order them to attack a specific target without having the player engage directly

The last one is just awesome. Also, notably, greatsword 5 is the only pull that can reach inside of an enemy structure, and pull a player out of their own portal into an enemy group Instead, necro should require more skill for its power rather than being balanced around being braindead easy.
Necro is a solid all around choice with medium complexity that can be taken into any mode of the game with great success and fill any role, you'll always find a slot anywhere
Engineer is great fun, but has significantly more complexity depending on playstyle with less reward for said complexity imo. Harbinger because it is way more fun than scourge They're both equally strong and have different ways of supporting a group Scourge is tankier than harbinger
Harbinger is more mobile than any other necro spec Harbinger can play as power dps, condi dps, or quick dps Scourge plays only condi as dps, alacrity dps, or support. Quick testing on kitty golem at highest damage level seems quite decent, i can comfortably keep myself at full health pretty easily
The biggest hurdle is having limited access to healing while in shroud
But i've also found that the longer the buffer you can build from initial shrouds, the less you need to go into. As for ranger vs necro for (solo) open wold Both can be easy and powerful On necro it might be a bit easier to perform well, but i'd say ranger has more potential (untamed is currently probably the strongest solo spec if played properly).
No support necro build takes it, and only condi reaper can realistically take advantage of stacking bleeding Taking blood magic at all is terrible Necro has few strong poison burst tools, but they are usually on very long cooldowns Where i stand a melee condi weapon that has some good poison application and (finally)
Necro greatsword 5 also does this, and in a lot of cases, can hit spots behind and over walls that focus 4 cannot
