Is a major oil leak a major problem Oil leak on a brand new limited edition car?? Well, any oil leak on a new car is absolutely unacceptable, and if a leak is “major”, it could cause you to operate the vehicle while the engine is dangerously low on oil.
If you think the engine is burning a quart of oil in a week, as opposed to leaking it out onto the ground, i would suggest trying restore, and if that doesn’t help, either rebuild or replace the engine, or buy a different car Is nothing made well these days I have had good luck with restore in the past

What color is it exactly There are other oily fluids in your car besides oil… transmission fluid and power steering fluid for example Unless the oil on your dipstick is old and black (in which case you should probably change it!), if your car is leaking oil, it will be the same color Try running your a/c until it starts dripping condensate, then see if the resulting puddle is the mystery.
If the oil leak is minor you can drive the car and keep adding oil as needed You didn’t tell us how much oil the engine is leaking, or where it’s leaking from. Timing chain replaced … [oil loss seems to be] coming from the upper timing chain case Well, that part isn’t supposed to leak any oil, and the interface was disturbed as part of timing chain job, so maybe just the seal between engine & case there needs fixing.
It appears your captiva is fwd and uses a 4 cylinder engine, so it is likely mounted transversely
If the front of the engine is on the passenger side of the car, then an oil leak could be from the front crankshaft seal, or a front camshaft seal Another possibility is the timing chain cover is leaking. The other day my 2003 subaru forrester was getting its oil changed and when it was done the mechanic informed me that my struts were leaking and needed to be replaced A $2000 job, but he didn’t seem to think it was urgent or anything
He mentioned something about roll overs and the wearing of the tires, but i’m not entirely sure what this means for the car It has 140k on it, and i drive. My 2017 outback has 38k miles and is in excellent condition They quoted me ~$4000 to reseal it
I called subaru america and was told that they can’t do.
I took my '04 ford focus to a dealer today to get an oil change and a tire rotation The technicians found an oil leak and offered to run the diagnostic test where they insert dye into the engine to see where the leak is coming from The test costs about $120 and i’d like to know if this is worth the cost I have a mechanic i trust around here who says that test is unnecessary b/c all you.
Same thing, 1100 miles on 2024 rav4 2.5l gas, leaking on driveway Dripping from th e rear of the oil pan Scheduled to go to the dealer for repair next week
